Best App to Save Recipes From Instagram (and Its Limits)

Where an Instagram recipe lives decides which app can save it. How ReciMe, Samsung Food, Recipe Keeper, Paprika and Well Stockd handle captions, videos and comments.

A phone on a kitchen counter beside chopped vegetables and a wooden spoon, ready to save a recipe from Instagram

The best app to save recipes from Instagram is ReciMe if you want a share-button import: tap Share on a post, pick ReciMe, and it reads the caption. Samsung Food reportedly does something similar. Well Stockd has no Instagram link, but it imports pasted captions, public recipe URLs and photos.

Nothing saves every Instagram recipe perfectly, because the recipe lives in different places on different posts. Sometimes it is a tidy caption. Sometimes it is spoken in the video. Sometimes the creator put the steps in the comments or sent you to a link in the bio. This page is about that workflow and only that: how each app gets the recipe out of the post, and where each one fails.

Two of the apps here are compared in more depth elsewhere. For ReciMe's cost and alternatives, see ReciMe alternatives. For where your saved recipes should live once you have them, see recipe keeper app free and recipe app: pick one for saving, finding or cooking.

Does Well Stockd import recipes from Instagram?

Not directly. Well Stockd has no Instagram integration and no share-sheet target, so you cannot tap Share in Instagram and send a reel to it. I checked the app's import code before writing this page. What it can do is take a recipe from the text or image you bring over yourself:

  • Paste the caption text. If it has an ingredients block or a method block, it becomes a review draft.
  • Paste a post link into the recipe URL box. For public pages it reads the caption that the page exposes, when it is visible. Private posts and captions it cannot reach are not fetched.
  • Read a photo or screenshot of the recipe with AI.

Nothing saves until you review it. It does not pull a recipe out of a video's audio or on-screen text. If the recipe is only spoken, you type it in or use a screenshot of any text on screen.

Where does the recipe actually live on an Instagram post?

Match the post to the method, because the right tool depends on it.

Where the recipe isWhat worksWhat fails
Written in the captionShare import (ReciMe, and reportedly Samsung Food) or pasting the caption (any app, including Well Stockd)Nothing, this is the easy case

How did we compare apps for saving Instagram recipes?

I read each vendor's own pages in October 2026 and, where a vendor has no page about Instagram, I say which dated source I used instead. I looked at three things: how the recipe gets from Instagram into the app, what the app does when the caption is empty, and what free use allows. I did not run live imports on a set of reels. That means the table describes what each vendor documents, not a bake-off.

ReciMe: how well does the Instagram import work?

ReciMe documents the whole route. On any post or reel, tap Share, tap Share to, and choose ReciMe. It works best when the recipe is written in the caption. If there is no written recipe it tries to detect one from the video's audio, and if that fails it tries to locate the original recipe website and import from there. (Import from Instagram)

The limits are documented too. ReciMe can only see what is public, so private accounts and pages behind a login fail. Smart import reads the caption only, so if the steps are in the comments, pinned or not, it will not get them; ReciMe's own advice is to screenshot the caption and the comment together and import the image. Imports from social media count toward the free 5 a week, and only when you save the recipe. (Why didn't my recipe import correctly, 5 free weekly imports)

If Instagram is where most of your recipes come from, ReciMe is built for it. The price after the free tier is covered in ReciMe alternatives and on the ReciMe switch page.

Samsung Food: does it save Instagram recipes?

Samsung Food is a free app, formerly Whisk. Its own help pages describe saving by link, a Chrome extension, and a share extension for iOS and Android that works from your mobile browser or apps such as Pinterest or Facebook. The help pages I read do not mention Instagram by name. A July 2025 local news segment says you tap Share on an Instagram or TikTok video, pick Samsung Food, and the app uses AI to work out the ingredients and steps from what is said or shown, even when the recipe is not written out. (Samsung Food help, WRDW, July 2025)

Treat the Instagram detail as a dated news report, not a vendor promise. Basic users get 3 free recipe scans from images; unlimited scans need the paid Food+ plan.

Recipe Keeper and Paprika: what do they do with Instagram?

Recipe Keeper's own site says you can search for recipes on the web, Instagram and TikTok and add them straight to your collection. That is a search-and-add inside its app. It is not a share button from a reel. Its Google Play listing says it can scan recipes with your phone's camera or from existing photos and PDF files, which is the screenshot route. (Recipe Keeper, Google Play)

Paprika's current app saves from web pages through its built-in browser and bookmarklet. In July 2026 the vendor announced a Paprika 4 beta that lists importing recipes from Instagram and TikTok with the share button, with a note that these features will need a premium subscription after the beta. Since September 28, 2026 the beta has been open to all current users. No price has been announced. (Paprika 4 beta, open beta)

Well Stockd: where it wins and where it doesn't

Where it wins: a recipe you rescue from Instagram gets checked against what is in your fridge, so you see "can make now" or exactly what you are missing, and the missing items can go on your shopping list. Unlimited recipes of your own are free. Cook mode shows large type with timers and keeps the screen awake. See the feature list, the guide to cooking with what you have, and the best app to track food expiration dates.

Where it doesn't: there is no Instagram integration, so every import is a few extra taps, and it cannot read a recipe out of a video. It is a web app on your home screen, not a store app. You can export your own recipes with their photos, your kitchen, lists and plan as one ZIP file, including on Free; recipes other people shared with you export as a name and a link. The caption import needs real recipe lines, and photo import uses an AI allowance and can miss words.

How do you save an Instagram recipe into Well Stockd?

Pick the route that matches the post.

Caption route. Copy the caption text from the post. In Well Stockd, open a new recipe, open More ways to import, and paste into the caption box. The importer looks for lines such as Ingredients, What you'll need, Method, Directions, Instructions, Steps or How to make. If the caption has the lists but not those words, add a line like "Ingredients:" above the list and "Method:" above the steps. A caption with neither block is rejected, because teaser captions are not recipes. Time, servings, cuisine and meal come in as placeholders, so set them before you save.

Link route. Paste the post link into Import a recipe URL. For a public post it reads the caption the page shows. Instagram often exposes only a short teaser, and in that case the importer will not guess; use the caption route.

Screenshot route. Take a screenshot of the caption, and of the comment too if the steps are there. Choose Import a recipe from an image and read it. Check the result, since the AI may miss words.

Then review each field. Nothing is saved until you create the recipe.

If the creator put the recipe on a blog, paste the blog link into the URL box instead. That is usually the cleanest import of all.

What should you do when the recipe is only in the video?

You have three real options. Use an app that listens to the video, such as ReciMe (documented) or Samsung Food (reported), and accept any import limits. Pause the reel and screenshot any on-screen text, then import the screenshots. Or type the recipe yourself, which gives you a copy no creator can delete.

FAQ

What is the best app to save recipes from Instagram?

ReciMe has the most clearly documented Instagram import: share a post or reel to it and it reads the caption, then tries the video's audio, then the original recipe site. Samsung Food is a free alternative, though its Instagram support is reported rather than documented. If you don't mind pasting, any recipe app that accepts text works.

For a public post it tries to read the caption the page shows, but Instagram often exposes only a teaser. When that happens, copy the caption and paste it into the caption box. Private posts are never fetched.

Why won't my Instagram recipe import?

The usual causes, per ReciMe's help page, are a private account, steps that sit in the comments instead of the caption, or a recipe that is only spoken. A screenshot of the caption and comment imported as an image is the common fix.

Do I need to pay to save Instagram recipes?

Not to start. ReciMe is free for five imports a week, Samsung Food's core app is free, and Well Stockd's free plan includes unlimited recipes of your own. For a comparison of free limits, see recipe app free.
