Paprika holds the recipes you clipped. Well Stockd comes with the recipes.

Paprika is a one-time purchase, sold separately per platform: $4.99 on iPhone and iPad, $29.99 on Mac, $29.99 on Windows, with cloud sync included and no web app. It has a pantry with expiry dates and it has a cook mode. What it does not have is recipes. You clip or type every one of them yourself.

What you keep

  • A pantry with quantities and expiry dates. Free here, on every account.
  • Cooking step by step on a screen that stays awake, hands free on Pro.
  • Your own recipes, typed or pasted in. Free holds five, Pro makes them unlimited.
  • A grocery list sorted for the aisle, with a one-tap Walmart cart.

What mattersPaprikaWell Stockd
StatusAlive and actively developed. Paprika 4 entered beta in July 2026.Live. The kitchen loop is the whole product rather than a side feature.
Recipe catalogNone. Paprika ships empty, by design: you clip from the web or type recipes in, and the collection is yours to build.About 3,950 meal-kit-style recipes, matched live against what you actually have in.
Pantry and expiry datesYes. Paprika’s pantry holds quantities, purchase dates and expiry dates.Full fridge, freezer and pantry inventory with expiry dates and freshness-aware sorting.
Cook modeYes.Yes, with the screen kept awake, and hands free on Pro.
Getting your data outGood. Recipes export as HTML, or as a .paprikarecipes file any copy of Paprika can read. Grocery lists and meal plans are not listed as exportable.Your own recipes and lists sit in your account for as long as the account exists.
Cloud syncIncluded with the purchase, with no extra fee.Included. Your kitchen syncs across your devices, and across the household on Pro.

What you gain

  • An inventory. Your fridge, freezer and pantry, with quantities, in one place.
  • Expiry dates. The app warns you before something goes off and sorts the oldest to the top. Free on every account.
  • Can-make matching. Every recipe says whether you can cook it tonight with what you already have.
  • A shopping list that is a gap list. It holds what you do not already own, and one tap sends it to a Walmart cart. Any store works.
  • Household sync. One shared kitchen, so nobody comes home with the second bag of rice.

The honest trade-off

What you may miss: Paprika is a one-time purchase with an excellent web clipper, a real pantry and a proper export. If you already have a collection and you live on one platform, $4.99 once is hard to argue with. Well Stockd is a subscription, and it cannot import a .paprikarecipes file.

When you should stay with Paprika

A comparison page that cannot name a reason to pick the other product is an advert. These are the cases where Paprika is the better call:

  • You want to pay once, on one platform, and own it. That is a fair deal and this page will not pretend otherwise.
  • You clip recipes from the web constantly, and capturing them cleanly is the whole job. Paprika does that better than we do.

How to move off Paprika

  1. Export from Paprika first. Export gives you HTML, or a .paprikarecipes file that any copy of Paprika can read, so your collection is safe before you change anything.
  2. Keep the file. Well Stockd does not import it yet, so it is your backup and your checklist.
  3. Start from the catalog instead of retyping. About 3,950 meal-kit-style recipes are already here, so only the genuinely personal ones need adding as your own recipes.
  4. Stock the fridge, freezer and pantry, and every recipe in the catalog starts saying whether you can cook it tonight.
  5. Create a free account. Confirm your email and 7 days of full Pro start, with no card.
  6. In Settings, open “Refer friends & earn Pro,” choose Paprika, and claim your one-time switch offer of 3 free months.

The offer

Paprika switchers get 3 free months of Well Stockd Pro: the planner, household sync, the hands-free cook assistant, custom substitutions and unlimited lists and recipes. It is one claim per account, in Settings, through the founding window. After that, Pro is $4.99 a month or $39 a year. The cooking loop stays free either way.

Common questions

How much does Paprika cost?

As of September 2026 it is a one-time purchase, sold separately per platform: $4.99 on iPhone and iPad, $4.99 on Android, $29.99 on Mac and $29.99 on Windows. Cloud sync is included with no extra fee, and there is no web app.

Does Paprika have a pantry?

Yes. Paprika’s pantry holds quantities, purchase dates and expiry dates, and it has a cook mode. The difference is what the pantry is attached to: Paprika ships with no recipes, so nothing is matched against it until you have clipped a collection yourself.

Is Paprika going to become a subscription?

Partly. Paprika 4 entered beta in July 2026 and the vendor says its new features will require a premium subscription after the beta. No price has been announced, so this page does not quote one.

Can I export my recipes from Paprika?

Yes. Paprika exports recipes as HTML or as a .paprikarecipes file. Well Stockd cannot import that file, so treat the export as a backup and rebuild from the catalog.
