Meal Planning App for Mediterranean Diet: An Honest Look
An honest look at planning Mediterranean-style dinners: what Well Stockd's cuisine label does and doesn't mean, how to plan a week, and which apps offer a Mediterranean diet option.
Looking for a meal planning app for Mediterranean diet cooking? Well Stockd has no Mediterranean diet setting, but it labels about 450 of its dinners "Mediterranean" cuisine, and you can plan a week from those. Eat This Much is one app with a true Mediterranean diet option.

This page is honest about the gap. The label on a recipe is not the same as the eating pattern, and we explain how to use one to approximate the other.
What is the Mediterranean diet, and what should a meal planning app do for it?
There's no single official definition. Mayo Clinic describes it as a way of eating based on the traditional food of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, usually high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and other legumes, nuts and seeds, extra virgin olive oil, and herbs and spices.
Its main steps are daily vegetables, fruits, whole grains and olive oil. Fish, legumes, poultry, nuts and eggs show up a few times a week. Dairy comes in moderate portions, and red meat and added sugar are limited. Mayo Clinic suggests fish or shellfish at least two to three times a week.
A planner that supports that pattern needs to do three things: let you choose the pattern, rotate fish and legumes through the week, and keep red meat occasional. That's a lot to ask of an app that organizes dinners, so it helps to know which apps do which part.
Does Well Stockd have a Mediterranean diet filter?
No. We checked the app. Its food preference setting offers vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian, plus a list of ingredients you can exclude. There's no Mediterranean option, and no keto, paleo or gluten-free option either.
What it does have is a cuisine filter, and "Mediterranean" is one of the cuisines. The library holds more than 3,800 recipes, mostly two-serving dinners. Roughly 450 of the dinners carry the Mediterranean cuisine label.
That label comes with the recipe, and it describes where the food is from, not whether the meal fits the diet. Some Mediterranean-labeled dinners are built on beef, lamb or pork, and some lean on cheese. So the filter gets you a good starting pool, and you still choose from it with the diet's pattern in mind.
What kinds of Mediterranean dinners are in the app?
The Mediterranean-labeled dinners lean toward the ingredients the diet is known for. By the app's protein tag, the largest groups are chicken and plant-based dinners, followed by fish. Smaller groups use beef, pork, turkey, shrimp and lamb.
Counting by what's in the recipe names gives a feel for the mix, though these are rough counts and overlap:
| What | About how many dinners |
|---|---|
| Built on chickpeas, lentils or other beans | 70 |
| Featuring feta or halloumi | 95 |
| Served with a whole grain such as farro, bulgur, quinoa or couscous | 140 |
| Built on fish or shellfish | 90 |
| Ready in 30 minutes or less | 230 |
| Ready in 45 minutes or less | 410 |
Typical dishes are salmon with a whole grain, chickpea salads and grain bowls, feta-topped plates, stuffed peppers and zucchini, and shrimp bowls. Nearly all of them serve two (a couple serve four), so a household of three or four will usually need to cook two.
Recipe pages are inside the app, so we can't link to individual dinners. The free account is the way in.
How do you plan Mediterranean-style dinners in Well Stockd?
Here's the working method, as it runs today.
- Open the recipe library and tap Filter. Under cuisine, pick Mediterranean. Under meal, pick Dinner.
- Add a protein to steer the week. Choose fish for two nights, plant-based for two, and chicken or turkey for one. That mirrors Mayo Clinic's pattern of fish a couple of times a week with legumes and poultry in between, while keeping red meat out of the picks.
- If you want a calorie ceiling, use the "up to" calorie filter. Each recipe card shows kcal per serving, which is an estimate and not a lab figure.
- Save the dinners you like as favorites or put them in a list.
- Open the weekly planner and build the week from your favorites or list. Free plans the current week by hand. On Pro you can plan up to eight weeks ahead, and the plan writes the shopping list for what you're missing.
The app also marks recipes you can make right now from what's in your kitchen. A pantry with canned chickpeas, olive oil, lemons and a bag of frozen spinach already covers several Mediterranean-style dinners, so starting from stock saves a trip.
Which meal planning apps have a Mediterranean diet option?
Of the apps we checked, Eat This Much has the most Mediterranean-specific pages, but it isn't the only one that lists the diet.
| App | Mediterranean option | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Eat This Much | Yes, a named diet type | Its Mediterranean planner page describes weekly menus, nutrition tracking and a grocery list, emphasizing olive oil, fish, whole grains and vegetables. Weekly plans and automatic grocery lists are paid features, per its pricing page. |
| Mayo Clinic Diet | Yes, a Mediterranean meal plan | Its Mediterranean meal plan is a structured 6-week plan for members, described as portion-controlled. |
| MyFitnessPal Premium+ | Yes, one of ten diet preferences | Its Premium+ page lists Mediterranean among the diet preferences for its meal planner. |
| Samsung Food | Yes, listed as an accommodated diet | Its meal planner page lists Mediterranean among the diets it accommodates, next to keto, paleo and vegan. |
| Well Stockd | A cuisine label, not a diet | About 450 Mediterranean-labeled dinners, a vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian preference, and no Mediterranean diet setting. |
Eat This Much's own Mediterranean app page says it prioritizes Mediterranean foods when you choose that diet, while its tracking focuses on macros and calories and not on a Mediterranean diet score. That's an honest limit, and it applies to most apps: they steer toward the pattern, and they can't certify that you followed it.
If your goal is to follow the diet closely for a medical reason, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian, and treat any app as a convenience. We don't make health claims for the diet or for the app.
